SAP Basis Consultant, Large Energy Company, 2015-2016

Large Energy Company is a petrol company that decided to re-implement its whole SAP solution by installing a complete new landscape and migrating the data from its old 4.6c landscape to a brand new NW7.4/EHP7 landscape. The project is estimated to have a duration of around three years and we are currently three senior SAP Basis resources to prepare, install and maintain the whole infrastructure of the project.

Joined Pan American Energy as an external senior SAP Basis consultant from Baitcon S.R.L.; a consultancy firm member of group “Datco”; to lead a team of SAP Basis resources and coordinate its integration directly with SAP as the purpose of this team was prepare, coordinate and configure the whole SAP systems landscape owned by the client to be upgraded by SAP. This preparation consisted not only on creating a parallel landscape of non-productive systems but also on improving, cleaning and fixing the systems that were going to be upgraded and advising the client about the best approach to achieve the upgrade with the less possible impact, possible improvements for the actual and future landscape, and automation opportunities to reduce the risk and improve the timing of different activities.

Consultancy company were I escalated from Junior to Semi senior level, we were only 3 basis consultants providing support for almost 70 clients, I was mainly supporting projects remotely and creating a local infrastructure to provide outsourced SAP instances hosting for some clients, and also coordinated the implementation of the SAP systems required to support this company.

Main projects/activities I had been involved by coordinating or execution:

  • End-to-end installation and project support of a ECC6 landscape for CNC (Governmental entity) on Windows 2008 + MSSQ 2008
  • Creation of the SLES 10 (Suse linux) XEN virtual cloud of the company from scratch to support the installation of around 20 SAP systems (5 productive systems + dev/qa/integration systems for each landscape)
  • End-to-end installation and project coordination for the implementation of ECC6 EHP4 using SAP ECC6 best practices baseline package for retail on Mexico on SLES 10 + MaxDB
  • SAP PI 7.1 end-to-end landscape coordination and installation on RHEL (Red hat Liinux) with MaxDB
  • SAP PI 7.1 landscape installation on AIX + DB2
  • CCMS monitoring implementation.
  • Early watch implementation for remote clients.
  • Implementation SAP CPS (Central Process Scheduling by Redwood) on local systems.
